Ditch Your Double Chin with KYBELLA®
- Posted on: Apr 15 2017
Are you tired of your double chin but wary about undergoing surgery? It may be time to consider KYBELLA; an injection used to dissolve fat cells and contour the neck and jowls. KYBELLA is an excellent alternative to liposuction or a neck lift to get rid of excess fat in the neck and chin. If you’re considering KYBELLA treatment, check out these frequently asked questions about this increasingly popular procedure.
How does KYBELLA work?
KYBELLA contains deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring substance found in our body that helps break down and absorb fat. When it’s injected into the fat under the chin, KYBELLA permanently destroys those fat cells.
Is KYBELLA treatment painful?
Before the procedure, a topical numbing cream is applied. Because the injections are made with a tiny needle, there is minimal discomfort. Some patients experience a mild aching or warming feeling during and up to 15 minutes after the procedure, and it’s possible to have mild tenderness to the touch for a few days after.
Do I need multiple treatments?
Yes, it’s customary for patients to require at least two treatments. For a more defined jawline, it may require as many as four KYBELLA treatments. During the procedure, the doctor will use a very fine needle to inject KYBELLA multiples times into the fat under the chin. It’s possible to have up to six treatments as long as they are spaced apart in six-week timeframes.
What are the side effects?
Patients typically experience bruising, swelling, numbness, redness, pain and firmness around the area that is treated. More rare and serious side effects include nerve injury in the jaw that can cause trouble swallowing, as well as an uneven smile or facial muscle weakness.
When will I see results?
Usually, individuals see results within three to four weeks after KYBELLA treatment, depending on how much fat they had, to begin with, and the amount of KYBELLA used.
How long will my KYBELLA results last?
KYBELLA destroys fat cells permanently, so follow-up treatments are not necessary.
